Students must be willing to travel to New York or other designated cities within the United States for these sessions, which will be planned in advance and communicated to enrolled dancers. The advanced level offers year-round training for Bharatanatyam dancers with at least 15+ years of experience. These classes focus on preparing dancers for professional performances, dance tours, and careers in the arts. Up to 10 students per batch This ensures personalized attention, individual corrections, and tailored feedback, fostering each student's artistic growth and progress. Details Class details Warm-Up, Strength, and Mobility Training for Dancers The classes place a strong emphasis on a structured warm-up, mobility, and strength-training routine to prepare the body for dance practice. Warm-up sessions include targeted exercises designed to activate and strengthen key muscle groups, ensuring the dancer's body is primed for optimal performance. These sessions also focus on enhancing joint mobility, improving flexibility, and reducing the risk of injury. By incorporating strength-building techniques and mobility drills, dancers develop greater control, stability, and endurance, creating a strong foundation for executing Bharatanatyam movements with precision and grace. Creative Exploration To further enhance artistic development, the practice includes crafting engaging adavu combinations that encourage creativity and a deeper understanding of movement aesthetics. This approach not only hones technical skills but also fosters a dynamic connection to the artistry and expression within Bharatanatyam Learning Signature Compositions Students will have the opportunity to learn some of the most intricate and beautifully choreographed Bharatanatyam compositions. These pieces include masterpieces created by Kassiyet’s esteemed Gurus, as well as selections from Kassiyet’s personal repertoire, reflecting her unique artistic vision and interpretation of the dance form. Each composition is paired with original music, specifically composed and choreographed to align with the nuances of Kassiyet’s repertoire. This ensures an authentic and cohesive artistic experience. Please note that all music and choreography provided are copyrighted and exclusively part of Kassiyet’s curated collection, offering dancers access to unique and professionally crafted works. Discover a selection of past compositions here Dance Conversations Classes engage in insightful conversations about the current state of Bharatanatyam and Indian Classical Arts on the global stage. These discussions explore trends, challenges, and opportunities within the international dance community, encouraging students to think critically about their role in the broader artistic landscape. Weekend Residencies and Intensives In addition to regular classes, the program may include occasional weekend dance residencies and intensives, designed to foster a sense of community and provide opportunities for immersive learning outside the usual class structure. These residencies offer students the chance to deepen their practice, collaborate with fellow dancers, and engage in focused workshops that enhance their technical and artistic growth. In addition to Bharatanatyam, students have the opportunity to explore Carnatic music, Talam (rhythm), choreography, and other artistic dimensions of dance. Kassiyet collaborates with some of the most esteemed masters in the realm of Indian arts, offering students the chance to learn directly from these renowned experts. Encouraging Exposure to Live Performances Dancers are strongly encouraged to attend Indian classical dance performances, as well as other dance events happening in the city. Watching live performances offers invaluable insight into the nuances of movement, expression, and stage presence, which are essential components of dance training. Experiencing performances by renowned artists not only broadens artistic knowledge but also inspires dancers by showcasing diverse interpretations of the dance form. This exposure helps students deepen their understanding of Bharatanatyam’s cultural and artistic contexts, while also fostering an appreciation for the richness and variety of dance in the global arts landscape. Observing and engaging with performances is a powerful way to learn and grow as an artist.     Kassiyet Adilkhankyzy ABOUT EDUCATION ENTREPRENEUR PRODUCER CHOREOGRAPHER MENTOR Kassiyet Adilkhankyzy was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on January 15, 1993, during the post-Soviet era. She grew up with her single mother, Rashida Shokanova, who held a PhD in Russian and Kazakh language and literature. Despite the challenges of raising a child on her own, Rashida worked tirelessly, holding two full-time teaching jobs in public schools and later at universities. Her passion for Indian culture, music, and films deeply influenced Kassiyet’s early life. Kassiyet’s dance training in Bharatanatyam began at the age of six, inspired by her mother's love for India. She started learning the classical Indian dance form in the Kalakshetra style under the guidance of Akmaral Kainazarova at the Indian Embassy in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where she trained for 11 years. Kassiyet's dedication to her craft eventually led her to India, where she had the privilege of training under two legendary Bharatanatyam gurus, the late Saroja Vaidyanathan and Rama Vaidyanathan. Under their mentorship, Kassiyet’s artistry flourished, and she went on to pursue dance professionally, touring the world and sharing her passion with global audiences. In 2020, Kassiyet immigrated to the United States to further her career in dance and entrepreneurship. Since then, she has been mentored by the legendary dancer Dr. Anita R. Ratnam , whose guidance has shaped her growth as both an artist and an entrepreneur. ABOUT In 2010, Kassiyet received a scholarship from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to pursue Bharatanatyam at Ganesa Natyalaya in New Delhi, India where she made her debut performance at the XIX Commonwealth Games under the able guidance of the legendary Late Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan. In 2015, Kassiyet performed at the prestigious Music Academy in Chennai, India being selected for the 27th Spirit of Youth Festival. Later that year, she was invited by the Dakshina Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company to perform at the Fall Festival in Washington, D.C., marking one of her first international professional dance tours. In 2017, Kassiyet was awarded scholarships by the governments of Hungary and Kazakhstan to study International Relations at the University of Pécs in Hungary. This opportunity broadened her artistic perspective and allowed her to connect with European audiences, further expanding her reach as a dancer across the continent. Kassiyet has had the privilege of learning a vast repertoire of beautiful compositions from her esteemed Gurus and performing them across 30 countries worldwide, sharing her artistry and passion with diverse audiences around the globe. Kassiyet has received multiple national and international awards and titles and has been recognized by the United States as an artist of extraordinary ability. She was also invited to join UNESCO's International Dance Council in Paris in 2022. In 2024, she had the privilege of performing with Ragamala Dance Company, one of America's most renowned dance companies, at the Lincoln Center in New York City. As a young Bharatanatyam dancer from Kazakhstan, dance has profoundly transformed and shaped Kassiyet's life. Bharatanatyam has not only expanded her dreams but also fueled her pursuit of higher goals. Kassiyet’s mission is to inspire the next generation of dancers to dream big, trust in themselves, and embrace the beauty and power of dance. Education EDUCATION Kassiyet holds an International Relations degree from the University of Pécs, Hungary. In 2019, she culminated her academic journey with an internship at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, where she actively participated in major UN events, debates, and meetings. Kassiyet also attended the Women in Leadership (WiL) and Diversity in Leadership (DiL) conferences at Stanford Graduate School of Business. These immersive experiences enriched her journey in dance and entrepreneurship. Entrep ENTREPRENEUR Kassiyet founded Kassiyet Cosmetics in 2022 in the San Francisco Bay Area, inspired by her love for Bharatanatyam and international diplomacy. The clean beauty brand reflects her dedication to cultural exchange, empowerment, and celebrating the arts across borders. Her passion for makeup, influenced by her mother, grew alongside her dance career and global experiences, culminating in a brand that bridges artistry and culture. Currently undergoing rebranding, Kassiyet Cosmetics will soon be available on the market, embodying her commitment to artistic expression and unity through beauty.     Seattle Workshop March 22 - 23 The Beacon, 812 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144 Day 1 The Tillana workshop brought together 15 gifted Bharatanatyam dancers from across Seattle, each one radiating passion, discipline, and grace. It was especially heartwarming to witness the dedication of dancers who journeyed from Portland, Tacoma, and nearby towns—driven by their love for the art form. Their presence turned the space into a vibrant tapestry of rhythm, movement, and shared devotion to dance. Day 2 The Tillana workshop was thoughtfully designed to guide dancers through the complete choreography of a vibrant Tillana, while also delving into the intricate nuances of nritta. It served not just as a space for learning, but as a gathering of kindred spirits, united by their dedication to Indian classical dance. The workshop was a resounding success —bringing together passionate dancers from across Washington and beyond, and sowing the seeds of a growing, vibrant community of Bharatanatyam artists in the region.

The event's primary objective was to exhibit the multifaceted and innovative endeavors undertaken by the university's departments and affiliated institutions, while also affording attendees a firsthand glimpse into the vibrant atmosphere of academic life. The culmination of the University of Pécs' 650th anniversary celebrations featured a special closing event. As part of this grand finale, Kassiyet delivered a captivating Bharatanatyam performance, accompanied by a lecture-demonstration.
